Please plan to join us for the 3rd annual Worcester Night Run 5k to benefit Erin Coonan Schmidt on Friday, September 23 at 7:00 p.m. The 5k road race will once again begin and end at Burncoat High School in Worcester.
The Worcester Night Run is a family-friendly community event and Worcester's only nighttime road race. Runners and walkers of all abilities are encouraged to participate in this unique event which raises money to support our dear friend Erin Coonan Schmidt in her battle against cancer.
Race fees and online donations received through erinsbenefit.com will help offset Erin’s medical expenses as she continues her fight against cancer. To make a donation to Erin's Go Fun Me page, click here.
We are also fundraising to establish a perpetual scholarship in Erin’s name, through Greater Worcester Community Foundation, to be awarded annually to a graduating student-athlete from Burncoat High School.
This scholarship will foster the education of Burncoat graduates who share Erin’s passion for health and wellness. Preference is given to students pursuing a field dedicated to disciplines that improve the well-being of others. Since her first diagnosis in 2008, Erin has gained expertise in nutrition, yoga and meditation to assist her healing, based on her belief that such practices strengthen mental and physical resilience. With this fund, Erin and her husband Bill hope to promote the study of health and wellness among a new generation of young people.
To make a tax deductible contribution to the Erin Coonan Schmidt Scholarship for Health & Wellness, click here, type in "Erin Coonan" in the "Select Donation & Gift Amount" field and follow the subsequent steps.
On December 12, 2008, one month after her wedding, Erin Coonan Schmidt was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer. At the young age of 27, Erin's life changed forever.
Over the next five years, Erin underwent monthly treatments, changed her lifestyle and did everything her doctors asked of her. And yet, at the age of 33, what should have been Erin’s final MRI, which would have cleared her to stop treatment and start a family, instead indicated spots on her liver. Within weeks, cancer was confirmed in both her liver and bones. Even with a stage four cancer diagnosis, Erin continues to fight, in part, because of the support received from family and friends like you.
Your generous support brings Erin one step closer to health.
